We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join us on our journey in developing services. Our team are responsible for Database management, monitoring and performance solutions to many hundreds of applications, large and small. We enable IKEA with operational excellence and seamless consumption of database capabilities through professional services.

To be successful as a systems engineer, you know your databases and the Industry Standard toolsets well for Relational and non-relational databases. Postgres, Oracle and SQL Server are widely used in our enterprise environment today. You are comfortably oriented in Database Management, monitoring, performance tuning, Disaster Recovery, High Availability, installing and configuring single and replication clusters.
Senior DBA skills will provide a solid foundation.

You also have

• Extensive knowledge and experience of automation and scripting (Terraform, Ansible, Python, Shell), common development concepts such as Git, CI/CD and working with REST API’s to enable engineers and developers to consume our services.
• An understanding of the paradigm shift transitioning from traditional IT towards hyper-converged, API first driven infrastructure.
• Knowledge of DevOps tools and methods and self-service capabilities
• Designed and maintained business critical, high availability systems using clustering and failover/recovery/LCM with minimal downtime.

Ooh, and do you also have cloud and/or software development skills? We can use that as well! As a systems engineer continuous upskilling introduce also needs for

• Rest API design and development using Django Framework
• Container and basic Kubernetes concepts
• Various cloud certifications


• You will be working physically and/or virtually in a fully empowered team together with other system engineers and reporting to Engineering Manager.
• We expect that you have several years working in an agile culture where change and continuous improvement is perfectly natural. This means you prioritize investing in yourself to by continuously developing and enhancing programming skills to boost innovation and productivity for optimization/modifications to the current design and development productivity and staying at the frontier of modern tools and technologies.
• You will take lead and drive initiatives. i.e., Proof of Concepts and have fun being on the way! Maybe you will lead PoC of a new monitoring concept for a new relational/non-relational DB in Production.
• You will create or modify automations through scripting languages using orchestrators and available APIs/ML/AI frameworks and apply best practices in delivering scalable infrastructure for efficient consumption in mixed cloud models ensuring compliance towards legislations, policies, or other requirements.
• Build a technology service that is cost-effective and robust with respect to architectural conditions, minimizing unintended errors and down time, and ensuring a resilient technological foundation


You will be surrounded by skilled & experienced colleagues having a common goal to transform our current infrastructure into the future and enable consumers across the global IKEA to be more efficient by modernizing and optimize how applications operate.

Together you will work to implement modern engineering principles, proper tooling and increase automation and self-service to enable the wished business outcomes and create a strong digital foundation for IKEAs Digital products and business. Our team is represented in Sweden (Älmhult) and USA (Philadelphia)


The role is based in Älmhult or Helsingborg and you will report to Engineering Manager for Database Management Services
